Le Kinh Tai (b. 1967, Da Nang, Vietnam) is one of the most compelling and distinctive figures in Vietnamese contemporary art. Since the early 2000s, he has emerged as a leading voice of his generation, with works that have consistently achieved top prices in the Vietnamese art market and entered important private and institutional collections worldwide.

Rejecting the nostalgic imagery of temples and rural landscapes that once dominated Vietnamese painting, he turned his attention to the complexities of modern urban life. His works capture the energy and vibrancy, and contradictions of the contemporary city, evoking its relentless pace and crowded atmosphere.

Le Kinh Tai's paintings are a powerful synthesis of street art, pop art, conceptual painting, and the visual language of posters and advertising. His paintings are populated by enigmatic human-animal hybrids, fantastical creatures, handwritten texts, and symbolic motifs rendered in brilliant, often sharply contrasting colours. At the heart of Tai's practice is an exploration of the human ego and instinct. "Other artists use animals to personify human beings," he has remarked. "I do the opposite, using the human being to be animalized to reveal our inner selves and highlight the animal within each of us."
